Brain storming

In this section of our unit two work i brainstormed ideas for what my final piece would look like i got in the end four different idea and I decided on the John Fruscainte and Jimi Hendrix and decided to do my final piece as a magazine cover and double blow out page with interviews form each guitarist. The  brainstorm i was more likely interested in was the   Magazine cover of John Fruscainte and Jimmy Hendrix. Because it can be made into a professional magazine front cover.

Photos of subject matter

Number one

 Number two

Number three

In this task i had to take photos of my subject matter which was all about guitarist. So me and my friend Dan Richards  got a guitar and took some photo of iconic guitar poses  and then i put them into a multiple photoshop files to put onto one sheet of all the high quality ones. I decided that a majority of these would work perfectly

Code and conventions of a magazine cover

I this section of my unit two exam  i had to do all about the codes and conventions of a magazine as that was the what my final piece was going to look like. I've added all the necessary conventions of a magazine cover like the masthead, concerts with main headlining acts, also since its a music magazine they have album reviews to see if it was a success or not.

Drawings and Doodles

In this task i had to do some drawings of my subject matter and that is all about guitarist and I decided to my two inspirational guitarist Jimmy Hendrix and John  Fruscainte. Jimmy Hendrix was Fruscainte's inspiration like Fruscainte is my inspiration.

paraphernalia of subject matter

In this section of my unit two exam i had to get photos or paraphernalia of my subject matter which were the two iconic guitarists John Fruscainte and Jimi Hendrix.  I got photos of their iconic guitars  and alum cover of Fruscainte's Solo album; The empyrean and Jimi's iconic burning guitar.

Copy against real version

In this task i had to do an artist copy and i decided to go with an artist called Stanley Chow who design different prints using illustrator. I deicided to use Stanley chow because i wanted my final piece to look more cartoon styled and Stanley chow and Mawil were the ones that stood out towards me.

Mawil's Copy

In this section of my unit two exam i had to do an artist copy and i choose to do the artist mawil.
coping his style in my own way to my subject matter. he reason behind why i choose to do this artist copy because i want to make me  magazine cover have a cartoon styled feel and I believed that mawil was the one that stuck out to me.

Mawil Emulation

 Drawn Mawil
Inked Mawil
Finished  Mawil

In this task we had to make our own version in our artist copy style which mine was Mawil i decided to do mawil on because i felt like my magazine cover needed to have a cartoon styled feel towards and that Mawil along with Stanley chow stood out the most towards me.

Case Study

Cover analysis one
Cover analysis two
Cover analysis three

In this section of my exam  i had to do a case study on my subject matter which was a magazine cover. so i analyzed three different magazine cover to see what was eye popping and made me want to buy the magazine i gave at-least three valid and good reasons on the convention of each magazine analysis.

Experiment 1

in this section of my exam i had to do three experiment this is my first one. This is a pixelated version of a photo of John Fruscainte.  I made just a black and white one to start of with and then made a grayscale followed by a multiple monochromatic ones along with non complimenting coloured ones along with one that looks similar to an island.

This is my second experiment and this was an illustrated version of John Fruscainte. I got the image and became to illustrate  the image  until it was finished. I added shadow and opacity masks to make it look 3D and more realistic. I added a background to make it more stylistic.

Experiment Three

This is my final experiment  similar to the first one but with a different style and this time with Jimi hendrix.
I used the filter in photoshop called pointillize and then i took the copy into illustrator and then did live trace along with gray-scaling and colouring it aswel.

 Thumbnail 3

In this task I had to do thumbnails of what my final piece was going to look like in my mind as this is what I think its going to look like with both guitarist on each side in the double blow out page along with Hendrix's final interview and Fruscainte's first interview and the front cover is of the a portrait photo of either guitarist. I also did a thumbnail for a front cover involving John Fruscainte and different interviews with the rest of the red hot chili peppers along with Dave Grohl. I began to sway more toward the idea of the front cover thumbnail because it looked more detailed and  i could make it look very professional.

Final Draft

My final piece hasn't changed much from my draft of it as it was very well done all that really need changing was the colour and the typeface. The typeface looked bland and boring and wouldn't catch anyone's attention. So I tried and made my own typeface for the final piece which was a success. I tried a few bright colours first but red really stood out and you would be able to sport it form anywhere but i wanted to try a bit of a different colour to show that the background colour changes every week.

 Final piece
Draft against Final piece

This is my final piece  for my exam.  My idea behind the final piece has changed drastically over the duration of this unit and made think more deeply into what  my final piece should look like. I went with the whole illustrator idea and turned it into an magzine cover. Obvisously following the conventions of a magzine cover.
I firstly made the magazine cover and made a illustrated version of a portrait of John Fruscainte and made sure i followed the convention of him having eye contact with the reader. The name 'Rockafella' was just a fun play of words as I created the typeface and rest of the font in Adobe Photoshop  and  put it all together to make my final piece.
